Beyond Physical Wellness: the Benefits of Home Health Care

At HealthKeeperz, we employ highly skilled healthcare professionals to manage every aspect of medical care, from skilled nursing to hospice. But one aspect of care that isn’t talked about nearly as much – despite being equally important – is spiritual and emotional care. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at how HealthKeeperz benefits mind, body, and soul.

Our organizational mission is “caring for all for the glory of God,” and it guides all of our healthcare providers as they interact with patients. HealthKeeperz is a family business and we treat our patients like family. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a team of care providers that is so compassionate, caring, selfless, and humble.

Research shows that the effects of having this warm, friendly presence in the home are extremely beneficial. Studies have found that:

  • Social connection, such as that from a home healthcare worker, combats isolation and depression.
  • Seniors who have a source of companionship live longer.
  • The more someone interacts with others socially, the less likely they are to develop dementia.
  • Socially engaged people are 29% less likely to develop coronary heart disease and 32% less likely to have a stroke, compared to their socially isolated counterparts.
  • Those with a companion nearby recover from surgery faster.

After reading these statistics, you can understand the power of the mind-body connection, and the tangible benefits of having an in-home companion. This is of particular importance with older folks. For one thing, losing friends and family is a sad but natural part of getting older – people move away, pass away, and start families of their own. Secondly, many people reflect more often on life and death at this age. Some seniors handle it beautifully, while others may experience feelings of fear, apprehension, and uncertainty. HealthKeeperz’ care providers respect the challenges unique to this stage of life and are well-equipped to provide companionship through it all.

A helping hand to reach the remote for you, a conversation about the grandkids, a hug at the end of the day. All of these actions are small yet impactful. For many of our patients, they make just as much of a difference as a physical therapy session or post-op care. They help transform the arduous process of receiving healthcare into an exercise in friendship.

Barnabas, a disciple of Jesus Christ, serves as a role model for HealthKeeperz’ style of care. In Hebrew, the meaning of the name Barnabas is “son of consolation” or “son of comfort.” That’s exactly what we strive to do – provide comfort, consolation, and companionship to our patients. We are humbled to serve each and every one of them, and we hope that you’ll consider us for care of your loved one in the future. Please contact HealthKeeperz at 800-309-3784 to start the conversation.

It's great that you point out that in-home care can help seniors feel less isolated. I worry about my mother living alone, so I'm thinking about contacting a home care agency for her. I'm going to look for a good home care agency in the area to use.

My grandmother is sick, and I have no time to take care of her, which is why I'm thinking of hiring an in-home care service that may take care of her. Well, I agree with you that this may also encourage social connection and combat depression. You're also right that communication and interaction may help prevent the development of dementia.

I totally agree when you said that a loved one who needs help would benefit from a hug or a talk with their relatives. With that in mind, it would really be best if we hire home care services instead to take care of my grandmother. She is not able to walk anymore and has vision issues, so it would be best if she has a professional assisting her while staying the comfort of our home.

My Grandmother has been having a lot of problems with getting around the home because her knees don't work as well as they used to. She would really like to get some help making meals, and getting out of bed in order to be more functional. I liked what you said about how she will be able to interact with other people socially that will allow her to get the right kind of connections to help her live longer.

Thanks for helping me understand that home nursing provides your aging relative the help they need regarding their medication and chores. I wanted to understand why anyone would need a nurse in their homes after seeing ads about it. I'll probably consider this once I'm old enough.

I love how you mentioned that those with a companion nearby can recover faster from a surgery. My mother just went for a knee dislocation surgery and is currently in her healing process. I will look into home health care services for my mom so that she can recover faster.

I like when you said that research shows that the effects of having this warm, friendly presence in the home are extremely beneficial. Due to the pandemic, my mother cannot go to her doctor because she is too old to travel plus so many restrictions. I will suggest to her to go for virtual consultation instead. I will also check if her current doctor accepts House Call Health Care.

I like how you said that home care services can be there for our loved ones so they won't feel so isolated. My dad is has been on his own for almost twenty years. He is getting older and more depressed with feelings of isolation. We want to give him some companionship during the times when we are busy with our lives. We will call home care services by the end of this week.

It's good to know that having an in-home companion can help improve the physical and mental condition of our seniors. My grandfather is having a hard time doing his day-to-day activities at home. I think having assistance from home health care is the best help we can have.
